Workshops 

We have several pre-written units which tie in with the KS2 curriculum for science and/or geography. These are deliverable as full or half-day sessions and costed accordingly. Please call or email to discuss pricing and the bespoke learning needs of your class. 

Migratory Fish

 

In this session, we will explore the physical characteristics of a river and how they support the needs of migratory fish. Sessions will include:

- The upper, middle, and lower courses of a river

- Human-made barriers that affect fish migration

- The life cycles of migratory fish

 

Freshwater Invertebrates

 

In this session, we will explore the sampling and identification of invertebrates typically found in UK rivers. Sessions will include:

- Effective sampling techniques and conducting risk assessments

- Methods for identifying and comparing freshwater invertebrates

- The essential needs for invertebrates to survive and thrive

Extension Opportunity: Create a Mayfly Hatchery in Your Classroom

 

Otters

 

This session is ideal for upper and lower Key Stage 2 students. We will explore the many adaptations of eurasian otters that enable them to thrive in their natural habitats. Sessions will include:

- The life cycles of otters

- Threats facing otter habitats

- Otter diets, food chains, and even their poop!

 

Balsam Bashing

Balsam Bashing workshops are suitable for children aged 6+

These take place outdoors between June and early August and focus on actively removing this invasive species and restoring riverine habitats for native plants. 

Children will learn:

- How to safely remove balsam and manage their own risk levels while taking part in practical environmental stewardship

- The importance of diverse plant and animal populations to river habitats

 

Beyond the classroom

We absolutely love coming into schools and working with class teachers to deliver important messages about caring for our rivers and the amazing species which inhabit them. We also offer learning opportunities for home-schooling groups and families - these can link to the workshops listed above, or focus on other learning areas.
